Dear parents and caregivers,
We are preparing and planning to ensure that our school remains a safe place for students, staff and families in 2022. Please see attached our school covid response plan, and information about school gatherings and assemblies. I will update you regularly as our planning changes in response to increasing covid cases across Perth.
I am requesting that all families complete this short IT Access at home survey to make sure that we know the best ways to keep in touch with you and support your child in the event of any school closure or students being required to isolate or quarantine at home. All children in the same household can be included on the same survey. If you are not able to complete the survey online, please call our office and a staff member will assist you over the phone.
Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Mrs Hilary Saunders, Principal
Good news! You will have heard that the lockdown is set to be lifted at 6pm today, and schools will be open from Monday 8 February. For secondary schools, all staff and students will need to wear masks at school for the next 5 days. Team leaders and advisory teachers will explain this in detail and answer questions first thing on Monday, which will start in Advisory classes at 9am.
Students should wear a mask on the journey to and from school, however the school will have supplies of masks for students who need them.
We are so looking forward to seeing you!
Mrs Hilary Saunders - Principal
The Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC, today announced that based on feedback from our school community Yule Brook College will extend to provide the Big Picture program for Year 11 and 12 students.
It is anticipated this change will be implemented for the start of the 2022 school year.
As you will be aware, the community was invited to have its say through an online survey, community forums and meetings held with school communities, including parents, local Aboriginal families, school boards and councils and parents and citizens’ associations.
Based on feedback from the community there will be no change to Cannington Community College, Sevenoaks Senior College or Cannington Community Education Support Centre.
In addition to the community consultation, the Minister for Education and Training received a letter from the council/board chairs of three schools indicating their support for this outcome.
The Minister for Education and Training, the Hon Sue Ellery MLC, has announced a community consultation to gather the views of local parents and community members on the current structure of public schools in the Cannington and Maddington area.
This consultation will consider the structure of education at Cannington Community College, Cannington Community Education Support Centre, Sevenoaks Senior College and Yule Brook College.
At present, Yule Brook College caters for students in Years 7 to 10. The College uses the Big Picture Education Australia program to provide individualised learning plans for students. Students then have the option to continue their learning at Sevenoaks Senior College or another school for Years 11 and 12, either in Big Picture or other secondary courses.
A community forum to discuss the consultation will be held on Wednesday, 2 September 2020, from 6.00pm to 7.00pm at the Yule Brook College performing arts theatre, 61 Dellar Road, Maddington. If you wish to attend, please register your interest at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Physical distancing measures will apply.
You are also invited to have your say, through an online survey, where you can select one of the following options:
Option 1
• Yule Brook College extends to enrol Years 11 and 12 students in the Big Picture program only.
• Cannington Community College becomes a Kindergarten to Year 6 primary school and Sevenoaks Senior College extends to Years 7 to 12.
• Cannington Community Education Support Centre offers Years 7 to 12 on the Sevenoaks Senior College site.
Option 2
• Yule Brook College extends to enrol Years 11 and 12 students in the Big Picture program only.
• Amalgamate Cannington Community College and Sevenoaks Senior College and offer Kindergarten to Year 12 across two sites.
• Cannington Community Education Support Centre offers Years 7 to 12 on one site.
There is a factsheet with more information and you are encouraged to read the factsheet before taking part in the online survey. The online survey will be available at education.wa.edu.au. The survey opens at 9.00am on Wednesday, 26 August 2020 and closes at 5.00pm on Tuesday, 15 September 2020. Community consultation in the Cannington and Maddington area
